Bio
Scott Jones is a veteran entrepreneur, inventor, strategist, and venture capitalist. At age 25, Scott co-founded Boston Technology (now Comverse, Inc.), where he invented a massively scalable, easy-to-use voicemail system, implemented in C and UNIX, that has been used by over 2.5 billion people around the world. The company was sold for $843 million in the ’90s.
Subsequently, Scott co-founded Gracenote, the planet’s largest music recognition and discovery service, now receiving over 180 billion queries annually, powering iTunes and dozens of other top music services and devices. The company was sold to Sony in 2008 for $260 million.
Scott has invested his talents and capital in various other entrepreneurial ventures including ChaCha (a Q&A company that operates a Top100 website and top-ranked mobile apps for iPhone, Android, and mobile Web), PrecisePath Robotics (a robotic lawn mower company acquired by MTD, which supplies most of Sears’ and Lowes’ lawn equipment), Art Technology Group (an e-commerce platform acquired by Oracle), PowerFile (a storage system technology acquired by Hitachi), and MOG (a digital music service acquired by Beats, which is being acquired by Apple). He has helped raise more than $200 million collectively for his companies.

A few years ago, Scott became an active leader, locally and nationally, to help about 45, 000 budding entrepreneurs hone their enterprising skills early in life through a program called “Lemonade Day.”
Eleven Fifty is Scott’s newest venture to help educate app and web developers with not only programming skills, but to help them succeed as entrepreneurs.Mayor Greg Ballard
Mayor of Indianapolis
Topic: Mayor Ballard Remarks on the State of Big Data in Indiana
Bio
Gregory A. Ballard was elected the 48th Mayor of Indianapolis on November 6, 2007 and was re-elected to a second term on November 8, 2011.
Immediately upon taking office on January 1, 2008, Mayor Ballard worked to eliminate a $170 million projected budget deficit. He also worked to return responsibility of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) back to the Mayor’s Office. Since those early actions, Mayor Ballard has presided over six consecutive fiscally responsible, balanced budgets. He purchased new equipment and added new training for police officers. He reorganized IMPD to put more officers on the street and proposed budgets that included new police recruit classes, including 80 new officers in 2014 alone.
Mayor Ballard is working to make Indy an even better place to live and do business. He is a national leader on issues such as energy, clean water, bicycling and electric vehicles. During Mayor Ballard’s tenure, Indy has been named by the New York Times as one of the 52 places to see in the world, a top city to start a business by Kiplinger, the Midwest’s next big boom town by Forbes, the top city in America to host a convention by USA Today, and many other accolades and awards by national and international publications.
Mayor Ballard also has a record of bringing innovative solutions to government. Indy’s Office of Education Innovation now oversees a portfolio of 31 charter schools serving approximately 12,000 students across Marion County. Mayor Ballard also successfully petitioned the State to transfer oversight of four historically low-performing IPS schools to the Mayor’s office so local people still control our local schools. Indy is recognized as a national leader in providing parents school choice. By the end of 2015, the City will oversee over 40 charter schools with an estimated enrollment of 15,000 students, the equivalent of the second largest school district in the city.
In 2010 Mayor Ballard launched RebuildIndy, an unprecedented $400 million+ initiative to rebuild deteriorating and long-neglected thoroughfares, residential streets, sidewalks, and bridges in neighborhoods throughout Marion County. RebuildIndy was made possible by transferring the city’s water system to Citizens Energy Group, a non-profit public charitable trust. In addition to providing funding to invest in Indy’s neighborhoods, without a tax increase, the transfer is also saving utility ratepayers an estimated $60 million a year and will keep rates 25 percent lower than originally projected.
Mayor Ballard was honored in 2013 as “Innovator of the Year” by the National Parking Association for his modernization of Indy’s antiquated parking meter system. The city partnered with ParkIndy to replace old, rusty meters with new solar-powered models that accept payment with change, credit card and even via a smart phone app. The move dramatically improved customer convenience and increased city revenue from $340,000 to $3.1 million. These dollars are directly reinvested into neighborhood improvements.
In 2013, the League of American Bicyclists gave Mayor Ballard its Bicycle Friendly Leadership Award. Indy now has 82 miles of on-street bike lanes, compared to less than one mile when Mayor Ballard took office. Under his leadership, the Indy Bike Hub has grown to be an example of urban cycling culture. Adding bike lanes and trails is part of Mayor Ballard’s plan to connect people and places around the city.
Mayor Ballard also received the international E-Visionary award at the Electric Vehicle Symposium for Indy’s leadership on energy security. Previous winners of this prestigious award include leaders from London, Los Angeles, Seoul and Seattle. Under Mayor Ballard’s leadership, Indy was the first U.S. city to pledge to convert its entire municipal fleet to electric, hybrid, compressed natural gas or domestically produced fuel by 2025. This will save taxpayers millions of dollars in fuel costs and will reduce the city’s dependence on foreign oil, thereby increasing our national security and stability.
Under Mayor Ballard Indy is becoming a leader in innovative new amenities. In 2014 the City and many private partners opened the Indiana Pacers Bikeshare along the Cultural Trail and a month later inaugurated BlueIndy, the first Bolloré electric car share program in North America. BlueIndy brings jobs and $35 million in investment by Bolloré Group, a Fortune Global 500 company. The full system will feature up to 500 vehicles at 200 locations, making Indy home to the largest all-electric car share in the United States.
Mayor Ballard is committed to creating and promoting a culture of inclusiveness for business opportunities, economic growth and sustainability for minority, women and veteran business enterprises. During his first term, he established the first Office of Sustainability in order to lead city-wide sustainability efforts and to improve livability for Indy residents.
Mayor Ballard’s leadership has helped to develop a more stable, affordable and pro-growth economic environment in Indianapolis. He continues to focus on attracting new businesses and encouraging existing companies to expand here.
A native Hoosier, Mayor Ballard was raised on the east side of Indianapolis and is a proud graduate of Cathedral High School. After earning his undergraduate degree in economics from Indiana University, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps. He was named a Second Lieutenant and then went to Basic School, where he finished in the top 20. During his time in the Marines, Mayor Ballard lived in cities around the U.S. and the world, including serving in the Persian Gulf War. Upon his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel after 23 years of service, he was awarded the Legion of Merit.
Mayor Ballard resides in Pike Township with Winnie, his wife of 32 years. Their children, Greg, Jr. and Erica, are both graduates of Indiana University.Eli Collins

N.C.I.S. Indianapolis, An Investigation into Data
Google “CMO CIO” and you get over four million hits. There are entire websites dedicated to the relationship between these two C-Suite roles (Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Information Officer). There are conferences conducted every year exploring ways to improve the interaction between IT and Marketing. There are pundits who say these two hold the key to corporate success (or failure). Why? One word....Data! Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana has taken a unique approach to address this issue. We created a division of Corporate Connectivity, with both Marketing and IT reporting to the same C-level executive. While data is at the core, it goes beyond data into the Networks, Communication, Information and Systems (N.C.I.S.) that drive everything we do. Together we will investigate the driving factors that led us to this decision, what has worked well, where we still have work to do, what have been the impacts to our business, and where we see the most significant gains in the coming years.

Chief Information Steward, Indiana Office of Technology (IOT)
Topic: Threatening Analysis - How Data Analytics is Saving Babies.
Montrial Harrell, Chief Information Steward, for the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT), is presenting a case study about how the state of Indiana is using data analytics to improve Indiana´s dismal infant mortality and child fatality rates. To do this, state agencies are using historical data to make predictions and better decisions on unfolding events.
For years Indiana´s infant mortality rate, a measurement of infant deaths within the first year of life and an important public health indicator, has ranked near the bottom nationally. In 2011, Indiana had the sixth highest rate in the country, or 7.7 deaths per 1,000 live births, according to the State Department of Health.
IOT is said to be using detailed data from areas that may be contributing to or causing infant mortality and children fatality, like access to health care, demographics and family criminal history. By analyzing a wide variety of sources that span state and federal agencies -- anywhere from 50 to 60 databases -- the state can get a complete picture of the problem.
Bio
Montrial Harrell joined the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT) in 2010 as a Senior Database Analyst. He has since moved into the role of Chief Information Steward for IOT´s Enterprise Architect Team. As Chief Information Steward, Harrell is tasked with providing vision and leadership in the continued development and implementation of enterprise-wide data governance programs including infrastructure, data security, and tool evaluation. Harrell is also part of the team that created the State of Indiana’s new Management Performance Hub (MPH), an enterprise wide data driven management system, designed to deliver the most effective, efficient, and transparent state government in the country. Harrell also serves as the technical lead on the IOTs new Cloudera Hadoop Cluster.Todd G. Vare

Topic: Big Culture: Beyond the Numbers
Predictive analytics, data scientists, big data, sentiment analysis, data warehouse, prescriptive, descriptive, business intelligence, data governance, embedded analytics... overwhelming confusion and hype when viewed by anyone not in the throes of the exciting technologies that we are implementing into our organizations. When looking beyond the data, tools, and complexities involved in bringing it all together we must take a concerted look at who and how our solutions are being used. This session will focus on building a culture of individuals who actively use the information and tools at hand in their daily jobs to make actionable decisions. Not everyone is naturally excited about analytics, yet many are sitting in our organizations waiting to be enabled through intentional mentoring and care. We will walk through some real world examples of building up an organic analytics culture where "big data" or even "analytics" aren´t often spoken terms, just part of the fabric of the enterprise.
